Kids love dinosaurs—so it’s no surprise they ask the best questions! Here are five common (and totally awesome) dino questions your little one might ask this week—and how to answer them like a true Curiosity Club scientist.
1. “Why did the dinosaurs go extinct?”
Great question! Most scientists believe a giant asteroid hit Earth about 66 million years ago, changing the climate and making it hard for dinos to survive. But not all of them vanished—birds are modern-day dinosaurs!
2. “How do we know what color dinosaurs were?”
We don’t know for sure, but scientists study fossilized skin and feathers to get clues. Some dinosaurs had feathers with pigments, which may have made them colorful—like parrots!
3. “What was the biggest dinosaur ever?”
Meet Argentinosaurus! It was longer than 3 school buses and weighed more than 10 elephants. Talk about a heavy dino-hug!
4. “Could I have a dinosaur as a pet?”
Only in your imagination (or in books and play)! But some lizards, chickens, and birds are distant cousins of dinosaurs—so you might already have a modern dino in your backyard.
5. “Can I be a paleontologist?”
Absolutely! Paleontologists study the past to understand the present. Start by loving science, asking questions, and collecting cool rocks or fossils when you explore.

Print out a “Dino Detective” badge from the Curiosity Club and give your child a magnifying glass and notebook. Encourage them to go on a backyard “bone hunt” and write down what they find!
