🍁 Welcome to the Lab (and the Corny Dance Floor!)
Babe & Bug are back in the lab — and this time, they’re making corn dance! 💃🕺
This fun fall science experiment uses simple ingredients to create fizzy, bubbling action that makes dried corn kernels come to life.
It’s the perfect mix of chemistry and curiosity — and a great Thanksgiving activity for kids!
🌽 You’ll Need:
- 1 clear jar or cup
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- ½ cup vinegar
- A handful of dried corn kernels (unpopped popcorn works great!)
- A few drops of food coloring (optional for extra fall flair)
🧪 Let’s Make Some Corn Dance!
Step 1: Mix the Magic
Pour 1 cup of warm water into your jar. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and stir until it dissolves.
Step 2: Add the Stars of the Show
Drop in your corn kernels. Watch them sink to the bottom of the jar.
Step 3: Get the Party Started!
Slowly pour in the vinegar.
Fizz! Bubble! Pop! The corn will lift and fall, “dancing” around the jar as the gas bubbles carry it up and release it back down.
Step 4: Keep the Fun Going
When the fizz slows, add a little more vinegar to keep the party moving.
💡
Babe’s Science Fact:
“The fizzing comes from a reaction between vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base).
This creates carbon dioxide gas bubbles — the same kind that make soda fizzy!”
😂
Bug’s Giggle Note:
“It’s like a corn dance party! Mine’s doing the popcorn shuffle!” 🍿💃
🌈 Try This Twist:
- Add food coloring for colorful dancing bubbles!
- Drop in cranberries, beans, or rice and see which ones dance best!
- Try using soda water instead of vinegar for extra fizz.
