Candy Cane Playdough: A Holiday Science & Sensory Adventure! 🎄✨

Smells like Christmas… feels like science!
This peppermint-swirled Candy Cane Playdough is the perfect hands-on holiday activity. It’s soft, stretchy, and smells amazing — plus, it’s secretly science in disguise! Every time you mix, measure, and knead, you’re exploring chemistry, sensory learning, and creative play.
🧠
You’ll Need:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 tbsp cream of tartar
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1–1.5 cups warm water
- Red food coloring
- Peppermint extract (optional but festive!)
👩🔬
Instructions:
- Mix the dry ingredients (flour, salt, and cream of tartar) in a large bowl.
- Add the wet ingredients: Pour in warm water, oil, and a few drops of peppermint extract. Stir until combined.
- Divide your dough in half. Add red food coloring to one half and leave the other white.
- Knead each dough ball until smooth and stretchy.
- Twist & swirl! Combine red and white dough together to create your Candy Cane effect.
💡
Babe’s Fun Fact:
“Cream of tartar helps your dough stay smooth and last longer — it’s a natural preservative and stabilizer!”
🎶
Bug’s Take:
“It smells soooooo minty! Can I make a candy cane mustache?” 😂
🧠
Learning Focus:
- Sensory exploration (touch, smell, and sight)
- Fine motor skills
