Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? They’re those dazzling ribbons of green, blue, and pink light that dance across the sky in places like Alaska and Norway. But don’t worry—you don’t have to travel far to see them. Today, we’re making our own glowing Northern Lights in a Jar!
🌈 What You’ll Need
- A clear jar or plastic container
- Cotton balls
- Glow sticks or glow-in-the-dark paint
- Glitter (optional, but extra magical!)
- Water
- Food coloring or liquid watercolor (green, blue, purple, pink)
🔬 How to Make It
- Fluff it up! Pull apart your cotton balls so they look like little clouds.
- Add color magic! Drop in a few colors of dye or watercolor.
- Glow it up! Carefully crack open a glow stick and pour it in (ask a grown-up for help!) or mix in glow paint.
- Layer it! Alternate cotton, color, and glow until your jar is full.
- Seal and swirl. Put on the lid, gently shake it, and watch your homemade aurora dance!
💡 What’s Happening?
The real Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) happen when charged particles from the sun bump into gases in Earth’s atmosphere—creating those amazing glowing colors in the sky.
In your jar, the layers of cotton and glowing liquid mimic how light spreads through the atmosphere. It’s a mini version of nature’s light show!
