Today’s fun fact is one of Babe’s all-time favorites (she even made a fact card about it and put it on the fridge):
An octopus has not one… not two… but THREE HEARTS! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s right! This squishy, eight-armed sea creature has:
- One main heart that pumps blood to the rest of its body
- Two helper hearts that pump blood through its gills to get oxygen
Cool, right? But wait, it gets even weirder…
When an octopus swims, its main heart actually stops beating.
That’s like your heart saying, “Hold on, I need a break while we’re at the pool.”

“Octopuses are some of the smartest animals in the ocean. They can open jars, solve puzzles, and even change color to hide!”
🎶 Bug Says:
“Three hearts means triple hugs!”

Octopus blood is blue, not red!
(That’s because it uses a special copper-rich protein called hemocyanin instead of the iron we have in our red blood.)
